Alan Turing

Alan Turing (1912 - 1954)
Alan Turing was an English computer scientist as well as a mathematician, he is well known for the creation of the Bombe. Bombe was the name for the electro mechanical machine which was created in 1939. The purpose of this machine was to help break the Engima codes which were used as a form of communication by the German army. His idea behind this machine was to created a 'universal machine' which would be able to solve and break codes used as a form of 'secret' communication.

He is now known as the founder of modern computing due to his discovery which was made many years ago. Unfortunately due to the time in which he was around his skills weren't appreciated because of his sexuality.

Final Poster Development

Animation layers showing the use of classic tween for my interactive poster.
The use of code snippets within my poster.
In the final stages of developing my poster I started looking at the placement of all my elements on the poster to make it the most attractive to my audiences. In the image to the right you can see I have used a number of layers to ensure that each component correctly animates. Overall I found the whole process relativley easy.
I included a number of my own elements that have been converted to buttons so that they are interactive when the user hovers their mouse over each image. I have used a bright yellow and orange background with a black font so that it looks easy on the eye, along with the animated text on the bottom right of the poster.
When considering the overall process and final look of  my poster i am happy with the outcome. However if I was to go back and changed anything I would have spent more time on tracing the images for my poster to give a more professional look.

Poster Development

Editing of the Science Museum logo within Photoshop
The first step in making my interactive poster was to collect and edit all of my components. starting with the Science Museum logo. I sourced an image online then put it into photoshop to alter the colours, background and size. All components should be saved as a JPEG as well as PSD file.
Initial Poster Design 1
Below are screenshots of two initial designs for my interactive poster. To create these images I found a textured watercolour image online, put it into photoshop and used different gradients, layers as well as colour schemes to achieve these two eye catching designs.  It is important to keep the logo in the top right corner so that my poster fits in with the Science Museums previous advertisements, by doing so this will make it attractive and believable to my audiences.

Initial Poster Design 2

I felt that the yellow background would excite my audiences and hopefully attract them more, when in comparison to the green design. The bright colours against the dark, bold logo stands out to me and hopefully once there are animations and text included it will bring in my audiences to my attraction.

Hal 9000

Hal 9000 - Artificial Intelligence Computer
Hal 9000 is a fictional character from the film '2001: A Space Odyssey' produced by Stanley Kubrick. HAL stands for 'Heuristically programmed ALgorithmic computer' which simply means that the purpose of this character is to portray an artificial intelligence machine on a space craft as communicating to the crew. During the time of the Cold War, funding was asked for from the US Government to enable the development of Artificial Intelligence however this wad denied, however this was around the same time as this film got realised. this shows me that back then, as well as now Artificial Intelligence is of great significance.
Within the film the character shows off its 'evil' side, showing the faults that could happen to AI in the future, this resulted in Hal 9000 being manually deactivated.

Floppy Disk

8" Floppy Disk - 1971
Yoshiro Nakamatsu, the inventor of the floppy disk, this piece of technology was developed in the 1960's and was on the market by 1971. This was one of the first forms of external memory for a computer and was popular to use because it was less expensive than hard disks. With the storage size reaching 1.2MB this was a massive step forward in technology around this time, this impacted a lot of people as it allowed schools, businesses and the general public expand what their computers could do.
The original floppy disk was 8 inches to start with, but this developed over the years, they got smaller and the memory slightly expanded.
The main points of development for this technology was dust and dirt, originally it was a bare disk, however if this would be affected by dust it wouldnt work and all date stored within it would be lost. This was overcome when it was then enclosed with a fabric which would eliminate dust patricles. This then lead to the development of enclosed memory storage devices such as the USB stick and External Hardrives.
